A lot of people really can't get enough of Chris Tiu. Here's a snippet about the King Eagle!
“When I was younger, I used to climb walls,” says Christopher John A. Tiu (V BSM AMF), “I’ll hang up there and wait for people to notice me.”
Now, he surely has no problems being noticed especially after being pegged as this year’s King Eagle. Not only has he garnered admiration in sports but also in the fields of academics, business and media.
Chris has helped the Blue Eagles make their mark in Philippine basketball while also bagging Mythical Five citations for himself. His dedication to the team is second to none as he would go all the way to Ateneo during off-days to do extra work on his own. Actually, when his grandmother passed away on his 21st birthday, he still decided to play a game the following day. His teammates agree that he’s truly a role model to all of them.
Chris’ family has always been involved in business so it’s no wonder that he decided to go on a business venture himself by opening “Chinky Chickens.” He explains that in the long run, he’ll also end up there since he loves the enjoyment and challenge it gives him. But he is also open to playing in the professional league after graduation since it’s “one story that would be nice to tell your grandkids.”
This senior player shocked basketball fans even more when he appeared with Manny Pacquiao in “Pinoy Records.” “He’s a funny guy. . . . I don’t really know him that well personally but I guess just being in a show with Manny Pacquiao is already an honor because he’s just a little bit short of a national hero,” Chris says. (He jokingly calls Manny his "buddy") Then again, he doesn’t want to get into the whole showbiz thing and wants to stick to hosting. In fact, he reveals that he might get a side job as a sportscaster or newscaster in the future.
But despite all his achievements and awards for his various endeavors, he still showed a childlike excitement for the Guidon-Moro Lorenzo Award. “Being a finalist is just an honor for me because sports have been a huge part of my life, especially basketball. It’s my passion.” If he wins, he says that he dedicates it to his family and teammates who have been a huge factor in his accomplishment.
With a rising food stall, a TV show with Pacquiao, and continued success in basketball, Chris does not intend to stop reaching new heights anytime soon.
P.S. He won the Guidon-Moro Lorenzo Award for Sports alongside Cassy Tioseco and Pat Ozaeta.
